Professor of 音乐史与文学
乔纳森·贝尔曼 can find worthwhile themes in almost any form of music—be it classical compositions, the work of George Gershwin, Gypsy music, or his son’s high school production of 猫. 他的最新著作， 肖邦的波兰叙事曲:Op. 38 as Narrative of National Martyrdom (2009), achieved wide acclaim for its thorough research, originality, 和 deep dive into the cultural 和 political roots of Chopin’s compositions.
After earning his doctoral degree from Stanford in 1990, Bellman joined the UNC faculty in 1993. One of his early works explored the influence of Hungarian folk music (or ”风格 hongrois”) on the work of classical composers such as Brahms. 他写了三本书 a wide range of articles 和 reviews for the Journal 的 American 音乐ological Society, Nineteenth-Century 音乐, Early 音乐, 音乐学杂志， 以及其他出版物.
An accomplished pianist, Bellman still performs occasionally, often with a focus on musical history or research. In 2009 he premiered a “lost composition” originally written in 1833 by Felix Mendelssohn 和 Ignaz Moscheles. 他是运动协会的优胜者.M. 和 Jo Winchester Distinguished Scholar Award (2011).
